1986 Year Review Age 14

1986

August
  • Started High School (9th grade)
August 1985 – May 1990
  • I was pretty depressed all the time from 1986 until I graduated in 1990.
  • I missed an average of 30 plus days of school per year and barely passed my courses.
  • I got mostly D’s and F’s and had to repeat many classes as well as drop college prep classes for more basic classes.
  • I did do well in instrumental music and that’s probably how I had a high enough GPA to graduate.
  • I stayed away from other students as much as possible and kept to myself.
  • Once I got to high school I stopped eating lunch at school and would go to the Band Room which was my sanctuary.
  • My band director was also my homeroom teacher all through high and was the only teacher who didn’t throw me away in a sense and he pushed me to always do better.
  • He would work with me whenever I needed help and even helped me with other subjects as well.
  • He was the only reason I stayed in high school and didn’t drop out.
  • There were a lot of kids that made fun of me and teased me in high school and he always seemed to come to the rescue.
August 1986 – May 1990
  • I was teased a lot by students at the high school just as in middle school and I was called “doughboy”, “Beef”, “Rosebud”, “Zit Face”, and “Fat boy”.
  • This is a lot of the reason I stayed to myself and avoided everyone.

1985

August
  • Started Another Middle School (8th grade)

August 1985 – May 1986
  • I was pretty depressed all the time.
  • I missed an average of 30  days of school that year and barely passed my courses.
  • I was coonstantly made fun of  for my weight and acne.
  • When there were no teachers around I was punched around as as well.

October 1985 – April 1986
  • On 10/20/1985 my Grandfather passed away and my eighth grade Math teacher teased me and said that I was lying so that I could get out of school.
  • On another occasion this same math teacher told me I was stupid and some of the other kids chimed in with their insults and he let it continue for almost half the class period.

1984 Year Review Age 12

1984

June
  • Continued showing signs of what I would now call manic behavior.
  • I would stay up after everybody went to bed and clean my Mom’s kitchen from top to bottom, watch television till it would go off the air, and then sit outside and watch the sun come up.
  • There were a lot of times where I wouldn’t go to sleep at all and just stay awake for two or three days at a time repeating these same activities over and over.
  • There have been times over the course of my life that I have exhibited behaviors like this but this particular summer I hardly ever slept at all just like summer of 1983.
  • I felt so good all the time and loved I felt when I was up late by myself.
  • On nights when there was no kitchen to clean I would rearrange and organize my bedroom.
August – September
  • Started showing some signs of OCD when going to bed which I have done consistently up to present day.  Whenever I have to set my clock to get up with I have to check it by verbally saying the time and the time the alarm is set for three times.
  • I presently repeat this process five or six times before getting in bed.
  • However, when the ritual began I would repeat the process hundreds of times in a night.
  • I can remember still checking my alarm when the birds were beginning to sing in the morning.

August 1984 –June 1985
  • Started Middle School (7th grade).
  • I was made fun a lot for being overweight.
  • I developed horrible acne and was made fun for it.
  • Continued staying up late at night on school nights and would watch television until it went off the air (4-5am).  This is something that I have done on and off up to present day.

1983

June
  • Started showing signs of what I would now call manic behavior.
  • I would stay up after everybody went to bed and clean my Mom’s kitchen from top to bottom, watch television till it would go off the air, and then sit outside and watch the sun come up.
  • During this time I got addicted to watching old television shows on the CBN network late at night and the one that comes to mind is “I Married Joan”.
  • There were a lot of times where I wouldn’t go to sleep at all and just stay awake for two or three days at a time repeating these same activities over and over.
  • There have been times over the course of my life that I have exhibited behaviors like this but this particular summer I hardly ever slept at all.

  • On nights when there was no kitchen to clean I would rearrange and organize my bedroom.

August 1983 –June 1984
  • Started Middle School (6th grade)
  • I was made fun a lot for being overweight.
  • There was an incident in my homeroom where another student pulled my chair out from under while I was trying to sit down and I ended up falling on my butt.
  • There was an incident on the school bus where another student punched me repeatedly in the groin area until I was sick and crying.
  • Started staying up late at night on school nights and would watch television until it went off the air (4-5am).  This is something that I have done on and off up to present day.

1982

August
  • Started 5th grade

September 1982 – May 1983
  • Fifth grade was much like fourth grade in that we swtched classes.
  • I still continued to have some concentration issues and had some trouble with reading comprehension.  However, I had two of the nicest teachers in the fifth grade one could ask for.
  • They never looked at me like I was stupid and always tok time to help me if I needed it.
  • I actually did a little better in fifth grade which I attribute to the way they both taught.
  • I passed fifth grade and it's probably the only grade I deserved to pass in all my years in school.
